Hiroto NAGAI Ph.D

He began piano lessons at the age of four. He played saxophone in his high-school brass band, and played mandoloncello, conducting, and composing in his college club (mandolin orchestra).

In 2014, he received his PhD in Environmental Studies from the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Nagoya University. After working at the Earth Observation Research Center of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the School of Education at Waseda University, he worked as a specially appointed associate professor at the Faculty of Geo-Environmental Science, Rissho University.

He specializes in Earth observation using satellites, especially environmental change and disaster science related to cryosphere. He is a board member of Kanto-Chubu-NishiNihon Branch of the Japan society of snow and ice.

4 歳よりピアノを習う。高校の吹奏楽部ではサクソフォンを担当。大学のサークル活動(マンドリンオーケストラ)にてマンドロンチェロ、 指揮、作曲を担当。2010 年までNPO 法人ARTE MANDOLINISTICA にて演奏活動。

2014 年、名古屋大学大学院環境学研究科にて 博士(環境学)取得。宇宙航空研究開発機構(JAXA) 地球観測研究センター、早稲田大学教育学部での研究・教育活動ののち、2023 年より 立正大学地球環境科学部 特任准教授に着任。

人工衛星を使った地球観測、特に雪氷圏に関する環境変動と災害科学を専門とする。日本雪氷学会 関東・中部・西日本支部理事。
